Barfoot & Thompson Otahuhu - Commercial Fitout, 2026

Otahuhu is one of Auckland's most diverse and energetic communities - a place where cultures meet and converge. That sense of connection became the organising idea for this office renovation and refit, shaping material choices, colour and the centrepiece reception desk from the outset.

The desk is the heart of the design. Its herringbone Melteca panels reference the concept of weaving and converging - while the underlighting gives it warmth and presence without overpowering the space. It also solves a practical problem, providing the visual privacy a working reception needs while remaining welcoming to clients arriving at the branch.

Throughout the fitout, materials were chosen for their honesty and durability. Simple finishes are used in considered ways - navy cabinetry in the staff kitchen paired with a herringbone glazed tile splashback, acoustic panels in the meeting booth, black steel glazing defining spaces without closing them down. The amber pendant light in the booth adds a moment of warmth in an otherwise bold, graphic scheme.

The result is a workplace that feels connected to its community - considered, durable and distinct.
